At our discussion prior to the 2026 Zero Project Conference in Vienna, the Mozambican panellist Clodoaldo Castiano (FAMOD), Ghislain Tihanibé Hien (Light for the World Burkina Faso), and Nurten Yilmaz (UNICEF, online participation) drew attention to gaps between policy and practice with regard to the inclusion of people with disabilities. Over 50 guests listened to their explorations of the ways in which their organizations have successfully dismantled barriers in humanitarian crises, particularly in the context of climate action.

Following a welcome speech by Marion Lieser, the CEO of Light for the World International, and a presentation of a study on the inclusion of older women in crisis situations, conducted by two Washington University students, Michael Fembek, the CEO of Zero Project, launched the soon available Zero Project Crisis Response Report. He underlined good practices across numerous continents, when it comes to providing dignity — and removing barriers — in times of crisis to persons with disabilities.

Ioanna Tsigiridi (Elrha) moderated the discussion which was part of International Partnerships Austria, organized by Light for the World, the Zero Project, and Global Responsibility.

An event report will follow soon.
