The New Perspectives for Humanitarian Action event, held in Vienna on 28 November, demonstrated that listening, efficiency, outspokenness and innovation are vital for humanitarian action. These qualities also proved essential for enabling experts from different sectors to share their insights on the present and future of humanitarian assistance, thereby sparking meaningful discussion.
Global Responsibility welcomed 80 guests from various sectors to the Sky Lounge at the University of Vienna. The guests heard from Fati Hassane, Director of Oxfam Africa, who was the guest of honour, and Gemma Connell, Chief of the Strategic Prioritization and Practices Branch at OCHA, who participated virtually; Nick Appleyard, Head of the Downstream Business Applications Department at the Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications at the European Space Agency (ESA); Anna Hirsch-Holland, Coordinator of the Rapid and Resilient Crisis Response Accelerator at ESA; author and journalist Harry Eyres; and Marisa Leon Gomez Sonet, Partnerships and Stakeholders Advisor at Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table (R-SEAT).
Thanks also go to journalist Thomas Seifert for moderating the event, and to the invited commentators: Silvia Holzer, Technical Advisor for Humanitarian Aid at Caritas Austria, and Claudia Stadler, Policy Advisor at the Green Party.
An event report will follow in January.
