Power shapes every aspect of development and humanitarian work – who sets priorities, whose knowledge is valued, how decisions are made, and how partnerships are formed. Yet power can often feel difficult to name, uncomfortable to examine, or easy to overlook in our day-to-day practice. Global Responsibility’s online series invites participants to pause and look more closely at how power operates across the sector, within our organizations, and in ourselves.

In the first session, we will explore the historical roots and present-day realities of power and privilege in international cooperation, creating space for honest reflection and practical thinking about how we want to show up in relationship with partners and with one another.

What participants can expect to learn in this session

  • Leave with a clear understanding of why power is at the centre of sector conversations right now
  • Have the language for talking about power at sector, organizational and individual levels, grounded in the history that built those structures
  • Have mapped their own position within systems of power and privilege honestly
  • Have named one thing they want to do differently in how they show up with partners

Target group: Staff of Austrian development and humanitarian NGOs
